Excessive cortisol and adrenaline rush are implicated in toxic stress that constantly keeps the body metabolism active, heart rates beating fast, and keeps people constantly on edge and on guard due to unknown threats. Toxic stress induces excessive cortisol and adrenaline. People can be subjected to plethora of stress conditions that can induce excessive cortisol. The Center will advance research in continuous traumatic stress and all forms stress related conditions create awareness, document these and mitigate their impacts.
Drug use, substance and alcohol addictions are negative ways that people cope with their mental health issues. Addiction can be genetic, biological, environmental, lifestyle; however, some people are susceptible to addition than others. The Center will offer substance abuse counseling and awareness on the destructive impacts of addiction.
The Center will take child protection perspective to support children’s mental health by examining the specific impact of traumatic stress on children and families and discussing strategies for providing support and resources to these vulnerable groups.
The Center through its clinic will support individuals through evaluation and assessment stress of impacts on wellbeing. The Center will explore the connections between behavioral health and stress, understanding how stress influences mental health, and discuss ways to mitigate its negative effects.
Highlighting the importance of ongoing research and specialized training in understanding and addressing traumatic stress, aiming to develop effective interventions and support mechanisms.
The Center will offer internship opportunities for secondary school and members of the public. The goal is to provide hands-on experience in the field of stress and trauma, helping to prepare the next generation of professionals.
The Center’s clinic offers psychotherapy counseling. Offer various counseling and treatment methods for managing stress and traumatic stress, and offering guidance on how individuals can access these vital services and resources.
The Center will increase awareness about traumatic stress through interactive dialogues, workshops and educational seminars, fostering a community of informed and empathetic individuals.
In Nigeria, traumatic stress and mental health issues are often overlooked. The more prevalent traumatic stress conditions are, the higher the risk of depression and anxiety. Sadly, there’s limited research and understanding of traumatic stress in Nigeria. Let’s change this narrative
